Here at Citizen Wolf, 100% of our clothes are made in our Sydney factory. That’s already unusual in the fashion game, but we go several steps further by actively encouraging you to visit our factory so you can see exactly how your clothes are made.
We’ve been open to the public and completely transparent since Day 1 because we have nothing to hide. And for the same reason, we’ve been proudly Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) certified for many years which means that we put our money where our mouth is by paying above-Award wages.
Why? Because Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world and paying a living wage is the right thing to do for our people.
Australia has a vibrant textile, clothing and footwear industry and we are passionate about providing local jobs, and keeping skills onshore so we can continue to make high-quality clothes right here in Australia.
The shortest supply chain is often also the most sustainable, but labour exploitation sadly happens everywhere, including in Australia where you might imagine our robust labour laws keep bad actors in check. To a degree that’s true, but the fashion industry is notorious for its unethical track record… and that’s exactly why Ethical Clothing Australia exists!
ECA is an accreditation body working collaboratively with the local supply chain to protect and uphold the rights of Australian garment workers. To be ECA accredited, Citizen Wolf’s manufacturing operations are externally audited from design to dispatch to ensure that local workers are being paid appropriately, receiving all their legal entitlements and working in safe conditions. This crucial work is done via annual compliance audits conducted by the TCF Union team, and we wholeheartedly support the idea that supply chain management is a fundamental part of being a B Corp and using business as a force for good.
By supporting an ECA-accredited business like Citizen Wolf, you are helping to strengthen the Australian fashion industry by valuing the rights of our local garment workers. Shopping with us means that you can buy clothes with full confidence, knowing that they were made ethically and locally by people whose rights and entitlements are being upheld and protected.
Nothing wears better than ethics, so get involved with #ECAWEEK2022 – because it doesn’t matter what the big global fashion brands say they’re going to do by 2040… what matters is what any brand is doing right now.
